Walking Down the Streets of..... Where is this Place?

Rene was walking down the roads of Paris, not really caring where he was going. He did this pretty often. He usually would have a map in his pocket, in case he got really lost. "Wow," He said, thinking out loud. He pulled out the note that he received a few days earlier. "I can't believe that I'm going to Beuxbatons." Rene looked up at the street sign before sitting down on a bench. He smiled, enjoying the scenery. It was nice to slow down every once in a while.

Igraine stifled a yawn, a hot mug of steaming hot chocolate clutched in her free hand, as she rubbed sleep from her eyes. "Mmmngh... `eye did I stay up so late for?" she murmured to herself groggily. She didn't know what time it was, not necessarily having a need to keep track of it. She hoped her fifth year would be a lot better than her previous four, at least, where her personal life was concerned. She scratched the back of her head as she stood at a street sign, leaning a shoulder against the pole and cocking a hip -- giving a loud slurp from her mug of hot chocolate as she took a drink, staring absently at the passing cars and muggles heading for work.

". . . Beauxbatons."

Her ears perked and the tall blonde straightened. 'Hm?' half turning, she looked over her shoulder at a young boy, sitting on the bench behind her -- black hair ruffled and hunched over a crinkled piece of parchment (it couldn't be anything else; she would recognize that type of paper anywhere).

Igraine faced the boy slowly, then carefully stepped towards him -- plopping down in the spot beside him, tucking her right foot behind her left ankle. "Beauxbatons, hmn?" she murmured in the boy's ear, leaning over slightly, "you must be excited, oui?" A smile tugged up the left corner of her mouth and she slid her powder blue gaze to the boy's face. Speeking English was something she had fallen into a habit with; one, half her family spoke it (father's side); and two, so did the rest of the known world. The only person she really spoke in French to was her mother, who thought Igraine's habit was utterly ridiculous.

Rene forced his gave from the horizon, towards the girl who addresses him. "Uh, yeah." Rene smiled at her. "I'm Rene," he stated extending his hand. "You got Beuxbatons too?" Quietly he tried to hid the piece of parchment in his back pocket. Looking up slightly, he noticed she had blue eyes. They were rather pretty, and slightly hypnotic. Rene's thoughts just sort-of drifted off...

Igraine nodded with a small smile, eyes darting to the boy's outstretched hand and -- she promptly ignored the offer, her hands wrapping a little tighter around her hot mug of cocoa. Her smile widened and warmed though and she ducked her head in a small, little bow of acknowledgement. "`allo, M'sieu René," she said, "Iggy Beliveau, Fifz Year Beauxbatons student."

Igraine wasn't very nervous or shy around the third, second, or first years; it was mainly her older peers that she shied away from, deeming it more appropriate to keep her mouth shut. The lower years were not yet affected by the thrall of her Veela heritage which made them a lot easier to talk to without the boys drooling over or falling at her feet (even as she sat at the bench with the little boy, she could feel the stares of the male passersby boring into the back of her neck -- her white-blonde hair having been swept up in an elegant messy bun and exposing the delicate curve of her neck).

A loud sip from her mug cut through the slight heavy silence, Igraine having fallen into her thoughts for a few heartbeats. "Ah, erm," she shook her head to clear her mind and lowered her mug from her lips, cupping it between her hands and setting it on her lap, "`ave you already -- erm, what is zee word," she paused briefly, then snapped her fingers, "gotten! `ave you gotten your zings for zee school yet?"

All of a sudden Rene's thoughts snapped back into his head when Iggy, spoke again. "Oui. My brother gave zem to me," I said again smiling. Unsure of wait to say next, I start to look around. "Are you excited about school, Iggy?"

Igraine's expression darkened slightly at René's question, taking a sip of her cocoa to stall for a hairsbreadth of time. "Mmn," she made a low noise, then sighed softly -- leaning back into the bench seat, folding a long leg over her knee. "I suppose," she said absently, then looked over at the dark-haired boy, offering a small smile that didn't quite reach her eyes, "zough I would much raz'er spend my days wiz someone like you; you are not drooling at me or giving me little glares."

Rene thought of what she said for a moment. He remembered reading something about a creature that sub-consciously released large amounts of Pheromones. "Are you a Veela?" It took Rene a little while to realize what he said might've been rude. "Maybe we'll be in zee same house. You seem really nice."

Igraine nodded and tipped her head back, draining her mug of cocoa -- licking her lips as she leaned down and set her cup by her feet on the sidewalk. "Mmn, oui oui," she sighed softly, "`alf. My maman is Veela." She propped her elbows on her knees and rested her chin on her laced fingers, staring out into the middle of the street, watching as cars slowed to a stop at the red light. "Zink I would `ave gotten used to it by now, non?" she chuckled softly, but the sound wasn't light or cheery.

"It does not sound zat way," Rene stated. "Don't worry. You are a Veela for a reason. Zere are no mistakes." Rene smiled again. "It iz toutes les bonnes."

Igraine gave a little snort and unfolded her leg, setting both feet on the ground. With a wide stance, she rested her elbows back on her knees, glaring at the passing cars as she set her jaw. "Pft," she scoffed, "if I attracted zee women I would not mind being `alf Veela so much, m'sieu. But non, I attract zee men." Igraine lapsed into silence for a long moment, watching the string of cars pass through the green light, then she sighed heavily and her expression softened a bit, the white-blonde girl leaning back into the bench and relaxing, "I would `ave much preferred to be a wallflow-air and draw no one's attention until I wanted to."
